1. What care is included?

Ask exactly what’s included, and what counts as an added service. Some communities treat medication management, bathing help, or laundry as extras.

2. How many staff are on duty, day and night?

Ask about staffing on nights and weekends, not just weekdays. Ask how long staff typically stay.

3. What happens if Mom's needs change?

Can she stay if she needs more care? At what point would she need to move?

4. Can I see the license and inspection reports?

Florida assisted living facilities are licensed by AHCA. You can look up inspection reports on FloridaHealthFinder.gov before or after your visit.

5. What does a typical day look like?

Ask to see the activity calendar. Visit at lunchtime, and try the food.

6. How do you handle medical emergencies?

Ask which hospital they use, and how they contact family.

7. What's the move-in process?

Ask about move-in dates, elevator reservations, insurance requirements for movers, and what furniture fits in the apartment.

Bring Help

Some senior living advisors will come on tours with you and help you know what to look for. Your MoveMyMom Advisor can connect you with one.

After the Tour

Write down your impressions the same day, while they’re fresh. Rate each community on care, staff, location, and how Mom felt there. If two are close, visit again at a different time of day, ideally during a meal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Many families find that three to five well-chosen tours are enough. A senior living advisor can help you narrow the list first.
